We’re profiling all of the teams that will be competing in the Heartland Series 2014. We’ve asked them to highlight the skaters hoping to make an impression in the Series and tell us a bit about themselves, to introduce our new teams and welcome back our friends from 2013. Today’s stars are playing on Sunday in the South West Division and are the reigning Heartland Series Champions, Severn Roller Torrent!

How was 2013?

Exhilarating! For Severn Roller Torrent, 2013 turned out to be a year of exciting, energetic and exhilarating roller derby! We were delighted to be invited to take part in Heartland 2013 and approached the tournament determined to skate harder, faster and better than we ever had before. We achieved our goal and in addition were privileged to meet, and share the track with, some truly lovely and inspirational teams.

Voodoo Ray
Voodoo Ray has been speeding around the Severn Roller Torrent track since September 2010. One of SRT’s most experienced and exciting jammers to watch, Voodoo’s fast feet, phenomenal focus and fighting spirit combine to create a nippy, versatile and hard to hold jammer who blasts through the toughest, tightest packs.

Blocker To Watch – Maple Lethal #L7

Maple Lethal
Maple Lethal has been delivering devastating shoulder checks and brutal booty blocks since her debut bout for SRT in September 2011. Lethal’s excellently executed hits fuse with her increasingly impressive footwork to result in only one thing: trouble for opposing players! Lethal is unfailingly cool, calm and collected on track; a true team player who effortlessly holds line ups together in every jam that she is part of.

Rookie To Watch – Rebel Ajenda #17

Rebel Ajenda
Skating with SRT since November 2012, Rebel Ajenda made an impressive debut for the A Team in Heartland 2013. Impossible to move on track, Rebel remains exactly where she wants to be for as long as she wants to be there. Rebel’s understanding of game play is beyond comprehensive; add in her astonishing acceleration and carefully controlled footwork and the outcome is a deliberately ferocious skater who, like a shark, relentlessly takes advantage of every opportunity presented to her.

What are your hopes and goals for the Heartland Series in 2014?

We are thrilled to be part of the even bigger and better Heartland 2014 and are looking forward to facing some new opponents in the upcoming bouts. We will be bringing everything we’ve got to the track and fighting for every point! We also aim to play good, friendly, fun derby and embrace the challenge of taking on the talented teams in our division.
