We’re profiling all of the teams that will be competing in the Heartland Series 2014. We’ve asked them to highlight the skaters hoping to make an impression in the Series and tell us a bit about themselves, to introduce our new teams and welcome back our friends from 2013. Today’s stars, returning to the Series for their second year, Wolverhampton Honour Rollers!

How was 2013?

Wolverhampton Honour Rollers are excited to be a part of the Heartland Series again in 2014, following our 2013 debut in the tournament. The team was founded in 2010, and like all leagues has faced significant transformations along the way. Our involvement in the Heartland Series so far enabled us to host our first public bout at a new venue. This was a mammoth task of organisation and commitment from all involved, and a significant milestone in the team’s history.

Through the Heartland Series, we were able to increase the team’s bouting experience at a high, national level. The team played together better than any of us imagined. Communication, pack work, along with outstanding jammers and true derby spirit shone through. Despite coming in last place in our division, the team had some outstanding moments, especially the fighting spirit on and off track and our reluctance to be defeated. Our Alpha pack has trained harder than ever, strengthened by our experience. Heartlands teams, you WILL want to keep these wolves from your doors!

You’ve heard of eye of the tiger? Wait until you hear the AWWOOOO of the she-wolves!!

Jammer To Watch – Jeneral Grievous #138

Jeneral Grievous
The Jeneral has been a member of the league since its birth. She is a 5-foot nothing, can’t pinch an inch, little powerhouse of jammy goodness! She jukes, she jumps, she gets LOW, and has tiny, tiny feet that can find even the slightest path through the pack. Jeneral started her derby career as a blocker, and is not afraid to cause some grief with excellent blamming skills.

Blocker To Watch – Twisted FireCarter # 26

Twisted FireCarter
Twisted was spotted from her first skating sessions as having true star potential. A natural blocker, she was voted “best blocker” AND “hardest hitter” in the Honour Rollers annual league awards! We need padded walls next to the track when Twisted is around! A true MVP team player, she also pivots and jams. But hitting. Always hitting!

Rookie To Watch – Oppress-Her #247

Oppress-Her
Oppress-Her is a new addition to the 2014 Heartlands squad. She has an awesome booty which the opposition cannot escape on track! She also has the speed and power to back it up and oppress players of her choosing. Oppress-Her, we predict great things for you in this tournament.

What are your hopes and goals for the Heartland Series in 2014?

We have learnt from our experiences in Heartlands 2013. We have trained to improve on the areas that we struggled with and generally ‘up’ our game. We want to put all of this learning into practice and emerge from the tournament more united than ever.

We want to show our wolf pack of the wider team and all of our loyal supporters how far we have come. Wolf pack, attack!!
